I am here to find out, once and for all, the best style of nursing bra!

my favorite style of nursing bra

Drum roll please....and the winner is....a classic underwire bra!.  The specific one I tried from Leading Lady is style J126640.

I've always been an underwire kind of girl from as long as I can remember.  It all comes down to support for me.  They need to be tamed and framed.  So naturally, when I decided to breastfeed I was so scared about what to do with my bras.  Everywhere you go in the mommy world you hear about horror stories of infections and complications with mastitis.  If I couldn't do underwire I didn't know what I would do.  But I am lucky, so incredibly terribly lucky.

I'm not going to give another total review on it.  If you'd like to read the original one here's the link to it. I will, however, give you some of the highlights of why it's my favorite.  The support is super fabulous.  Naturally it would be because of the underwire, but it is a really well made bra. The cups are molded and supportive all on their own.  The straps didn't fall down off my shoulders either.  The lace is just an added bonus.  It's so pretty and it makes me really feel like woman again.

Now, I know that most of you reading this probably can't do underwire, so I'm going to share my second favorite: no wire molded cup sport bra (The one I tried was style 4388.)

No, this is not the most attractive bra in the world.  No, this is not the most supportive bra in the world.  However, being a no wire it's pretty darn close.  This is my second favorite because this is the most supportive no wire bra I've ever tried tried.  Granted, besides this experiment there haven't been many, but I am really impressed with it.  The cotton is soft and kept me dry through leakage or sweat.  I really enjoyed the familiar feeling of have dedicated cups rather than a squishy compression bra that hurts like no other with sore milky boobs.  I personally would need a little more from it to use it as a heavy activity sports bra, but it's pretty great for light stuff like cleaning the house or walking with a stroller.  It's also decent enough to go out in public for those of you who are self conscious about that kind of thing.

I'M DONE!!!  Now that this experiment has concluded, I'm currently coming up with ideas for what to focus on next.  I would love any feedback you have for what direction to go now.  But stay tuned because I just might have something else up my sleeve. :)  But for now, enjoy this gif image of the happy dance going on in my head.

Last Review of Nursing Styles!

I saved the chemise for last. I didn't know what to expect, and frankly, I almost didn't want to try/buy it.

And so begins a tale of I wish I'd known...

I guess I'm not a chemise/nightgown person, let alone a nursing chemise person. I'm more of a shorts and cami person. I just don't feel right if I don't have shorts or some type of pants on. I've never been one to sleep in the buff. And even though I had a night gown on, it still felt like I was naked. The convenience of the nursing latch was the same as if it were a nursing bra and cami. So there was no advantage on that front.

I hate that it only comes in black. Sometimes black is nice if you wanna hide spills and what not. But I'm sleeping, I'm not feeding a messy 3 year old with flinging spoons. I wish there was something more pretty or feminine.

It says hand wash only and line dry. So on top of being the busiest mommy in the world, I'm supposed to take away my convenient washer and dryer and slave away hand washing and then waiting for dry clothes. No way. That should have been my first sign.

I would bet a million dollars that there are nursing moms who can't live without this type of product, and that's ok! In fact, that's great! You've got something that works great for you. But one woman's treasure is another woman's trash. I'm going to look into returning it. I have no use for this thing. Sorry leading lady and fans of chemises :(

Pure, unadulterated mom fears. I think I love you too much.

Most of the time, I just want to lock you up in my bed with me and never leave. Every time I need to leave the house, I pray as I buckle you up in your car seat. I get sick just starting the car up. "Please let all the idiot drivers stay home today. Please let this drive go smoothly. Please...no accidents" Have you ever felt like because you had a precious baby in your shopping cart that at any moment the product laden shelves could collapse right on top of you both? Irrational, I know...

I dread when you are school age. I don't want you to leave me waving at that yellow bus praying nothing bad happens, praying there are no creeps in the school system. Going through those silly yet impressionable elementary years leading into the painful awkward pubescent filled high school years.

I get so anxious thinking about you going through your first heart break when some idiot deems you not worthy. I'm nervous for the first time you ask where babies come from and more worried for when you think your ready for sex.

I'm scared. to. death. of not having a good relationship with you. When you start puberty and go through all these changes, I want you to want me there for it. I'm afraid you'll lock yourself in your room and shut me out. I'm afraid you'll use partying and drugs as a comfort. I'm terrified of you hating me.

I'm afraid I'll be a bad parent. Everything that I have done for you, and here on out was what I thought was best for you. I'm scared you won't know this and think I'm trying to "ruin your life."

In face, its quite the opposite. Despite all these terrible fears, there are so many things I want for you.

I can't wait for you to come home from school and tell me about your new friend, who you met and befriended all by yourself. I'm so excited to see what kinds of school clubs and organizations you want to be apart of. I will never miss an event. I want to see what subjects in school interest you most and to hear every so often what you want to be when you grow up. I can't wait for the day you tell me you found the one. I am so excited for your wedding day that I can't hardly stand it. I want to see you up there devoting yourself to your one and only as I did with mine. As much as I don't want you to grow up, I long for the day you tell me that I'm going to be a grandmother, to see you hold your baby in your arms as I hold you in mine now.

I wish I could see in the future and know that everything will turn out alright. But at the moment, I wish you would stay a baby for a long time so I could smother you with all the loving I could and keep you completely safe.

If you're still with me, thanks for listening to my rant. I hope I'm not the only one with these feelings.

Another coupon!

Mon, 08/15/2011 - 3:08PM by Leslie Vander 0 Comments -

I found another coupon code for leading lady!

Sorry, I'm not actively searching for codes, let alone for all kinds of bra brands. I just visit some coupon sites and quickly search bras, and most of the time stupid codes pop up like free shipping with $200 purchase, or $5 off $100. Sorry, but those aren't worth it.

So this one is for 20% off entire order, 3SAVE738TJ. Happy shopping!

Did you know?

Thu, 08/11/2011 - 9:17AM by Leslie Vander 0 Comments -

I was on the leading lady website and took a look at the about us section. It was actually pretty neat because they had a timeline about the history of leading lady. Some of the facts were pretty interesting and I thought I'd share some of them with you.

Did you know that Leading Lady was started by a man?
Did you know JCPenny started selling Leading Lady nursing bras in 1968?
Did you know that Target started selling them under private label in 1985?
Did you know that Walmart followed in 1991?
Did you know Leading Lady invented the nursing cami in 1998?

If you'd like to read more about their history, go to their about us page! :)

nursing dresses!

Wed, 08/10/2011 - 9:17AM by Leslie Vander 0 Comments -

I thought I'd do another installment of nursing wear, but only on dresses.  I love dresses anyways, so looking at nursing dresses seemed like the right thing to do ;)  Here are some really nice ones...I know they are super expensive and none of us can probably afford them...but its so hard to find cheap good looking clothing.  If I do find some really good cheap dresses, I will of course post those too!

Ivanna tie

Every day Dress

I just noticed something...when looking for nursing dresses, I've just seen there is about 10 basic styles that EVERY nursing wear company sells.  It doesn't really vary between stores, everyone carries basically the same thing.  So out of the standard styles, they may or may not be subtle differences...

So that's why there's only 3.  I only like 3 out of the same 10 or 15 I saw.  Better luck next time I guess.

Sport Wirefree Nursing Bra Review

Mon, 08/08/2011 - 12:13PM by Leslie Vander 0 Comments -

I've never really seen the real use of a sport nursing bra, but seeing as I was doing the whole experiment thing, I couldn't rule it out for all of you.

So I've been wearing the sports bra for a couple days and I have to say....not bad, not bad at all.  It's actually a really nice bra if you use it for lazy weekends, or hanging around the house, or taking a walk with a stroller.  i've never really had any sports bras with molded cups to begin with, so this was a new thing for me.

If I'm working out, I prefer to just use compression bras and squeeze the crap of out the girls.  That feels more comfortable to me, but I would guess it's not everyones first choice.  So when I tried working out in it, I just felt really weird and uncomfortable.  It wasn't what I was used to so I don't know if that would be something I'd get used to or if I never would.  I'll be trying it a couple more times, but overall, not the best for working out, for me.  Something I was thinking about before I exercised, have any of you worked out in something like this and had the clasps undo themselves on accident?  It didn't happen to me, but I wondered if anyone else experienced that...

BUT, it is uber comfy and I love wearing it around the house.  Even without the wire, it had a fair amount of support because of the molded cups.  The snaps were just as easy as the other Leading Lady nursing bras, so that was a good thing too.

On a side note, I wanted to share with you why I chose the color I did.  The website offered this gray and a white one.  But in the picture, it looked as if there was some see-through-age on the white in the cup.  It looked like the part of the cup that came down for nursing was thin and showed through.  Now, I can only speak for the gray one, it was pretty thin there but it didn't show through thankfully.  I just can't imagine the see through would be good, especially because it's thin and its a sports bra...meant for activity...oh well.

So comfort was a 10/10

support (during normal wear) was a 10/10

support during moderate or heavy exercise was a 5/10

ease of access 10/10

Overall, I'd highly recommend this for light activity and for leisure wear, even sleeping...its THAT comfortable.  But it you really need to exercise in this, I'd suggest throwing on a compression top.

Once again, you can get this sport nursing bra at Leading Lady
